We use QuartzStone12, real 12mm engineered stone applied over the top of your existing benchtop (Laminate, Marble, Timber, Tiled, Granite or Old Caesarstone Benchtop) known as the overlay process, traditionally done using a 6mm thick resin/fibreglass mix with a little bit of granite fleck to give it a granite look.
United Stone Melbourne was the first in Australia to engineer and manufacture 12mm engineered Quartz Stone slabs and are best used in the overlay application as well as new stone benchtops for Ikea flat pack kitchens.

Traditionally, 99% of the suppliers will still use a 3mm MDF template. This is great if you have a cabinet maker building you a whole new custom kitchen. We, in 2011, decided that using MDF templates was no longer an option due to the swelling of the product. It’s fair to say that it’s fine for other companies to do so as this is the only way they know how to template stone benchtops. We were able to implement a unique laser templating system to our templating process. This meant that we didn’t need to disconnect sinks, cooktops and remove tiles or splashbacks and laminate benchtops just to measure for an existing kitchen benchtop for a renovation or stone benchtop installation. Everything would simply stay in place, and we would template your entire kitchen benchtops in under 45 minutes without any disruption whatsoever.

Our humble beginning and personal story is something that has always guided our philosophy and shown in our work ethic.
Founded nearly 50 years ago by Italian immigrant Luigi Badaracco from Tivoli, our company story echoes his life and achievements. After spending years as a stonemason repairing marble statues and fountains around Italy, he migrated to Australia. Here, he and his two sons built Tivoli Marble — working tirelessly to deliver excellence in quality, service, and authenticity.
The present owner worked directly with Luigi and his family for twenty years, learning in detail all of the technical expertise, skills, and level of commitment necessary to carry the company forward. That tradition is still very much a part of the company today.

Marble, on the other hand, is synonymous with luxury and provides high-end style when used in kitchens and baths. It can be paired with sleek surfaces for a contemporary look or used to dress up farmhouse-style spaces. Both materials lend dimension and gorgeous natural patterns to countertops, but each comes with specific considerations for maintenance, durability, cost, and more. What is the difference between marble and granite?
As granite and marble became very popular materials for kitchen and bathroom countertops across the United States during the last decade, homeowners have become more and more interested to know the differences between these two natural stones. Many homeowners want to know which material is suitable for kitchen countertops, what is preferred for bathroom vanity tops, what stone is good for outdoor kitchens, if marble can be used as kitchen counters, and so forth.
Both granite and marble are naturally found stone materials that are quarried directly from the earth. Although marble and granite have some basic similarities, they have significant differences as well.
Your decision between installing marble and granite counters in your home depends on the location of the counters and how you will use and maintain them.
Origin of Granite and Marble
Granite originates from the solidification and cooling of magma deep within the earth over a period of millions of years. It is classified as an igneous rock because of its origin from the cooling down of molten magma. During the process of heating and then slow cooling, granite forms as an exceedingly hard material.
Granite consists of mainly Feldspar, Quartz which are very hard minerals.
Marble is classified as a metamorphic stone because it is created by the transformation of another type of stone called sedimentary stone. Sedimentary rocks form from sediments in the earth combined with buried plant life under the earth over a long period of time. These sedimentary rocks get metamorphosed into marble under intense heat and pressure. This process incorporates other minerals into the marble that can give the stone attractive colours.
So basically, Marble originates as limestone and transforms into marble. Marble mainly consists of Calcium Carbonate, which is much softer than the components of granite.
Appearance
Marble is metamorphic or sedimentary in origin, with a smooth surface typically striated with veins of minerals. Some marble is quartz-based, while others are composed of serpentine, a greenish mineral. Commercial marble is typically available in variations of black and white.
Granite is metamorphic or igneous, made up of silica, mica, feldspar and quartz, generally with a packed, granular surface. Colour varies from light to dark, presented in flecks, veins or solid patterns.
Keep in mind that appearance in both types of stone varies between slabs depending on its natural source and cut location.
Installation
When it comes to installing granite or marble countertops, both types of stone are installed the same way, starting with a template transferred to a slab, which is then cut to fit and finished. The slab is set into place (directly onto cabinets or a plywood substrate) and secured with silicone adhesive. Holes for sinks and faucets must be cut, and these stone slabs are tough to handle. Both tasks should be performed by a professional.
Maintenance
All-natural stone requires different levels of maintenance, and homeowners should remain vigilant to the condition of their bathroom or kitchen countertops. In general, granite is very durable, stain-resistant and lower maintenance than marble. Granite should be sealed after installation, and if done properly, water will bead on the surface. Resealing should be completed every year to ensure a solid and efficient surface.
Minor scratches or even small chips can be repaired with stone epoxy. Note, however, that very busy or hardworking kitchens may need extra attention.
Marble should be thoroughly and regularly protected with a sealant designed specifically for porous stone surfaces. Keep in mind that marble’s composition is naturally prone to stain, even if sealed, so be sure to clean up spills as they happen. Acidic liquids, such as lemon juice, tomato sauce and citrus, are unfriendly to marble and can etch into the stone.
Long-Term Durability
While it’s easy to believe that all stone by nature is super strong and nearly indestructible, it’s important to know the full story. Granite and marble are both very durable but must be sealed at least annually to ensure liquids do not gradually seep into the stone. Granite and marble are resistant to heat, but you should always be careful (i.e. don’t set red-hot pans directly on the countertop surface). Granite is a harder stone than marble and holds up better to chips and scratches.
Whether you’re choosing a marble or granite countertop, you can pay more attention to its appearance also. Granite and marble have different appearances. The flecking in the granite that we mentioned earlier is due to meddled stones.
However, marble comes with cream- or grey-coloured veins. These veins are due to impurities in the marble, such as iron oxide.
